Beau Ideal Editions houses the creative work of founder and artist Jill C Lee. With a background in Fine Art, she uses her skills to create unique and original illustrations, designs, and lettering.
After receiving her BFA from The Cooper Union in NYC, she worked in the fashion industry as a designer for The Gap. In 2009, Jill decided to focus her energies on her own work and started a line of screen printed stationery under Beau Ideal Editions. She soon expanded to making art prints, custom work, wholesaling, and licensing.
She has shown at several venues including The Brooklyn Flea, NYNow, National Stationery Show, and Renegade Craft Fair. She has also appeared in publications and blogs such as Real Simple, New York Magazine, Paper Mag, Time Out NY, Design Sponge, Oh Joy, Poppytalk, Cool Hunting (poster), and Apartment Therapy to name a few. Though Jill is doing less wholesaling in order to focus on art directing and exclusive work, she has been represented in stores throughout the country, such as, McNally Jackson-NY, Cursive-NY, Greenwich Letterpress-NY, Paper Presentation-NY, Bird-Brooklyn, Greer-Chicago, ICA-Boston, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum-Boston, Firefly-Venice, Urban Mercantile-SF, Atomic Garden-Berkeley, Crate & Barrel, Paper Source, and The Four Seasons Hotel Shops.
Her inspirations and influences come from a variety of things: from Decorative Arts, to patterns and shapes in nature, to Modernism, to Louise Bourgeois, to her talented peers. Her biggest inspiration, however, is her young son who looks at life with continuous imagination, curiosity, and wonder.
Jill recently moved to the Bay Area where she now lives and works.
